Description
Description
Fibroblast growth factor 6 is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family. FGF family members possess broad mitogenic and cell survival activities, and are involved in a variety of biological processes, including embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth and invasion.
FGF-6 functions as a mitogen for fibroblasts, vascular endothelial cells, and prostate carcinoma cells, and N-linked glycosylation is required for the full mitogenic effect. FGF-6 expression is restricted to skeletal muscle during development, although it can be upregulated in prostate cancer and Kaposi sarcoma.
