Recombinant Human Artemin Protein

$0.00

Artemin protein is a member of the glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) family of ligands which are a group of ligands within the TGF-beta superfamily of signaling molecules. GDNFs are unique in having neurotrophic properties and have potential use for gene therapy in neurodegenerative disease.

Description

Description
Artemin protein is a member of the glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) family of ligands which are a group of ligands within the TGF-beta superfamily of signaling molecules. GDNFs are unique in having neurotrophic properties and have potential use for gene therapy in neurodegenrative disease. Artemin has been shown in culture to support the survival of a number of periferal neuron populations and at least one population of dopaminergic CNS neurons. Its role in the PNS and CNS is further substantiated by its expression pattern in the proximity of these neurons. This protein is a ligand for the RET receptor and uses GFR-alpha 3 as a coreceptor. Four alternatively spliced transcripts have been described, two of which encode the same protein.

Full Name
Human Artemin protein

Source
E. coli

Molecule Weight
The mature recombinant human GDNF consists of 118 amino acids (108-220) and has a predicted molecular mass of 24.2 kDa as a dimer.
Purity
> 95 % as determined by SDS-PAGE
Endotoxin
< 0.1 EU per μg of the protein as determined by the LAL method
Activity
Measured in a cell proliferation assay using SH‑SY5Y human neuroblastoma cells. The ED50 for this effect is 4-16 ng/mL. Measured by its binding ability in a functional ELISA. Immobilized Recombinant Human GFR alpha ‑3/GDNF R alpha ‑3 Fc Chimera (Catalog # 7269-FR) at 1 µg/mL (100 µL/well) can bind Recombinant Human Artemin with an apparent Kd <1 nM.
