Recombinant Human GDF-1 Protein
$0.00
Growth and Differentiation Factors (GDF) are members of the BMP family of TGF-beta superfamily. This group of proteins is characterized by a polybasic proteolytic processing site that is cleaved to produce a mature protein containing seven conserved cysteine residues.

Description
Growth and Differentiation Factors (GDF) are members of the BMP family of TGF-beta superfamily. This group of proteins is characterized by a polybasic proteolytic processing site that is cleaved to produce a mature protein containing seven conserved cysteine residues. The members of this family are regulators of cell growth and differentiation in both embryonic and adult tissues. Studies in rodents suggest that this protein is involved in the establishment of left-right asymmetry in early embryogenesis and in neural development in later embryogenesis.
GDF-1 is expressed in the developing and adult nervous system, particularly in neurons of the cerebral cortex and hippocampus. It is required during embryogenesis for development of left/right axis asymmetry, anterior/posterior axis asymmetry, and the notochord. It cooperates with Nodal and GDF-3 in these activities and potentiates Nodal bioactivity through formation of a 27 kDa noncovalent GDF-1-Nodal heterodimer
